Building a federated framework for a new 3D web with a focus on collaboration and live development
Description
space is a framework for creating collaborative, federated virtual worlds — a 3D web where users can build and explore worlds together, without relying on centralized platforms.
It includes a live coding environment, a 3D UI toolkit, and a scripting language (Fennel) that lets you do graphics, physics, and audio directly in-world.
Currently, it runs on Linux and you can either download an AppImage or build it from source. In the near future, the plan is to support Windows, macOS, Android, and add tools for real-time collaboration like shared editing, kanban boards, and more.
It uses open protocols like Matrix, and will support running your own “space pods” (self-hosted bundles for chat, voice, etc). Later down the line: VR support, cryptocurrency integration, better accessibility options, and support for interacting with legacy apps and websites in-world.
