I’m 29 and forgotten by the broken disability system. I am on bedrest orders for who knows how long.

This started a little over two years ago in October 2019 and I have been fighting the broken system ever since.

I am lucky to have healthcare, although it is tied to where I live and it’s been harder to access beyond telehealth since the pandemic started.

We have yet to diagnose what is wrong with my stomach issues as the hospital continues to delay needed testing due to Covid cases, funding and other excuses here in West Texas.

What we do know, is that I am seeing the early stages of hereditary degenerative disc disease, on top of other physical damage from falling and accidents when I was younger that have led me to now need a shower chair to shower. I also inherited hereditary heart issues. Arrhythmia (abnormal heart beat, which man is it scary when you can physically feel a skipped beat) being one of the top heart issues and it has the power to exhaust me.

Post-ICU & ER 2019, I started battling severe panic attacks and severe anxiety issues as well, and they were quick to over medicate in the hospital which carried over after the hospital and led to me having to try and work with the doctor to create safe tapering plans and work towards safer medication choices — which with multiple issues, it’s hard to find a set of medications where one doesn’t interact negatively with another.

I also spent most of my life self-employed which is why the disability system has been rough on me and why it hasn’t worked despite multiple appeals. I don’t have the work credits for full SSDI and because I worked “with computers” - SSI claims I could work from bed despite my doctor submitting information stating a return to any form of work would be a guaranteed death sentence.

I used to design and create things and when I am able- I would love to do more again, but I am rarely awake for any length of time.

I have applied for multiple assistances and been either denied (because a doctor saying you’re disabled and the government saying you’re disabled are two VERY different things in America. To pay rent, electric and such, depending on temperatures (electric heat/cooling), med copays and survive - I need to raise about $1200 a month, and I cannot do it without your help.

Rent - $575.50 (rent is paid in Resident Center app which charges 50 cents transaction fee) Phone/Internet: $90.51 a month Med copays: $50-70 a month Vitamins & Supplements: $45-65 a month Electric: $120-$200 a month depending on heat and cooling usage

Remainder of money will go towards food and basic household expenses and my copays for doctor visits and soon (fingers crossed) in home physical therapy. (I am housebound and on bedrest so I am unable to drive.)
